TONSBAKKEN - 30 MW Data Centre in Skovlunde
Tonsbakken is located in Skovlunde, Ballerup Municipality. The property was constructed in 2009 as an industrial facility, primarily used for warehouse operations.
Propreco managed the development and redesign of the property into a data centre in close collaboration with atNorth and their advisors. AtNorth now owns the property and operates the data centre, which serves various corporations with large-scale data needs.
The data centre was established in existing buildings covering approximately 7,200 m². Additionally, a 600 m² extension has been built, including a technical yard with a transformer station, emergency generators, and electrical modules.
The plan is for atNorth to contribute to heating residential homes in Ballerup Municipality through waste heat in collaboration with the energy and wastehandling company “Vestforbrændingen”.
The original buildings’ maximum height of 8.45 meters has been preserved. Five newly installed soundproof chimneys reach a height of 16 meters.
Paved areas (roads, parking lots, loading areas, and the technical yard) cover a total area of approximately 12,000 m².
AtNorth chose the location on Tonsbakken for an urban data centre because of its placement in an industrial area without environmentally sensitive applications or habitats for protected plants and animals. Another key criterion was the availability of sufficient utility and transport infrastructure.
